Anyone travelling around London on a regular basis will appreciate the ease of using the pre-paid Oyster Card, however, TfL have been advertising the fact that 'Contactless Payment' will be in operation starting early 2012 for users with the newer type of contactless credit and debit cards which would make life even easier.
The question is, will this new system be rolled out in time for visitors to the London 2012 Olympics starting in July, or will it be a case that the system isn't ready and travellers should continue to use the Oyster card for travelling around London.
Anyone not familiar with the existing Oyster card please visit the official Transport for London website
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14825.aspx for more information
You can use the Oyster card on most public transport in London including buses, trams, Tube, DLR, London Overground, Riverboats and National Rail. Check on the above site for the few exceptions.
My hint to anyone considering buying one is to order it online before you visit London because the queues for these cards can sometimes be very long, especially at peak times.
