Womens Circuit Race Championships This Weekend

24th June 2007, 17:29

This Sunday sees the second circuit race championship in a week when it's the Womens turn to race for a British champions jersey in the British Cycling 2007 Womens Circuit Race Championship. More than 40 riders are on the start sheet including a few internationals.

Favourite will be Otley girl Lizzie Armitstead, last years champion who was in fine form on Wednesday night in a support race for the Mens Circuit Race Championship. She will however, face some stiff competition from many including Local girl Amy Hunt, aged 21, who is a former Horwich Cycling Club member. A member of the Great Britain team, like Lizzie Armitstead, Amy was 4th in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

The field also contains a multi-World Champion and Paralympic hero from Swimming, Sarah Bailey. The Great Britain cyclist won a clutch of medals at last years World Championships and is continuing to go faster and faster and has already shown many times, she can race competitively with the able bodied girls and anyone who under estimates her, will pay a high price!

Of the others on the starting sheet, there are quite a few who are capable of winning the race and they include Charlotte and Katie Colclough; Alexandra Greenfield, Katie Curtis, Nikki Harris, British Under 23 Road Race champion Joanna Rowsell and winner at the Brentwood Circuit Series race, Alice Monger-Godfrey. Covering the race for British Cycling will be Andrew Kennedy.
