2014: Sakzburg Motorway
20th September 2006, 20:54
The organisers of Salzburg’s bid for the 2014 winter Olympics claim that plans to add a second lane to the southern section of the Tauern motorway are a boost for the city’s campaign.
The €214-million project should be completed by the end of 2010 and will shorten travel times from the south of Austria as well as the neighbouring countries of Italy and Slovenia.
Meanwhile, Russian president Vladimir Putin has called on officials from the European Judo Union to support Sochi’s bid to host the 2014 games.
The organisation is presently meeting in the Black Sea resort.
Pyeongchang in South Korea is the third candidate bidding to host the winter Olympics in eight years’ time.
