On a Day's Outing

Just a thought - how many of you actually spend your day visiting museums? (When in a foreign country or even in the country you live in....)

Hi beefeater24 and welcome to our UNOFFICIAL London 2012 forum.

In answer to your question of which museum, might I say I very rarely indeed visit museums nowadays, though did take a look around the very impressive Wallace collection a few years ago, which is located at Hertford House, Manchester Square, London,W1U 3BN.

I've already started a thread The Wallace Collection

I intend at some point in the future to visit the Science Museum in London, though this is nearer to Hyde Park and Kensington rather than the 2012 site. I've heard a great deal about this museum and spoken to several friends who were thrilled to bits with the visit. The only thing that really annoys me intensely is their continued use of the chargeable 0870 telephone number, which anyone involved in marketing will say is a major sales killer. Thank goodness for the website 'Say No to 0870' which provides the geographic alternative to those pesky chargeable numbers! http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

Anyone who is interested in the Science Museum, please take a look at the website at http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/ - note that entry to the museum is free, though most of the attractions like Wallace & Gromit & IMAX 3D cinema are chargeable

Hi Richard - You must go to the Science Museums - Its so cool! Usually I check out what exhibitions the Museums have on display and then go if i think it will interest me. I came back from London recently and ive got to say that the museums there really showcase british culture to perfection - they must be similar to those found in Manchester? Whilst in London I went to an exhibition at the london design museum to see the Super Contemporary Exhibition - I would recommend that - it was worthwhile!! and the great thing is that it is until October so if you manage to pop across and see it - let me know what you thought of it

Went last week, its been 'dumbed down' yes, full of colour and kids might love it, but in one day I checked out the Nat History Museum, V & A Museum and the Science Museum. Have been to all three many years ago, and then the Science was the best, the others a bit 'Stuffy'

IMHO the ones to visit in order are

Nat History building has been cleaned, and its almost worth the trip just to see that, and if you ever wanted to know how they got the idea for Harry Potters School Hogwarths staircases look at the Nat History's main hall.

Victoria and Albert, was a revelation, only went in their to get out of the rain, and spent over two hours, well laid out, very clear, and easily understood, don't miss the film and theatre section

Science, went to see Babbage's Difference Engine, and while all the items are still in the Museum the overall effect is you are stuck in an MacDonnalls takeway.

If you are living in London or in Foreign country and go to outing for one day. You are going to History Museum, V and A museum and Science museum are the good places for your learning. London is Metropolitan city of the UK.
