Relive The Magic At This Free Event! - July 15, 2006 - 7:00pm - Centennial Olympic Park
A decade ago, the world watched as Atlanta hosted the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
With gracious southern hospitality on display, Atlanta transformed overnight, into a bustling, vibrant world class city.
Ten years later, we are reliving the magic. Organizers, athletes, volunteers and anyone else who wants to joins us are gathering in Centennial Olympic Park to remember and to celebrate the enduring impact the games have had on Atlanta.
Multi-platinum, multi-Grammy and CMA award-winning star Trisha Yearwood will perfom during the celebration. The Georgia native and MCA recording artist performed during the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. She will join thousands in the Park to reunite, reminisce and relive the excitement shared a decade ago.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to reunite with fellow volunteers and relive the excitement of the opening ceremonies, the games and the camaraderie they shared. And anyone is
Our city leaders will join us as we look at where we’ve been in the ten years since the Games. We’ll celebrate the great strides our city has made, from Centennial Olympic Park to Turner Field to the World’s Largest Aquarium.
In conjunction with the Celebration in the Park, the Atlanta History Center is launching their Centennial Olympic Games Museum earlier the same day. The festivities begin Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Atlanta History Center, with special guests from the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) joining Mayor Shirley Franklin for the official ribbon cutting.
