Who gets to sponsor the olympics?

Hi I am doing some research into the sponsors of the olympics. My question is who does the sponsorship go to, is it the highest biders, for example the bigger brands and companies, and is the olympic message taken into consideration when the sponsorships are decided or is it all just about money? Any kind of information surrounding this topic would be useful. Thanks!

Welcome to our unofficial forum, regarding your question, my personal view is that Money is the first consideration, only the richest companies can become a level one sponsor. Only when there is more then one bidder does the olympic message is then talked about. Ref the problems with the Dow corporation.

There was discussion amongst us gamemakers last weekend ref the sponsors, is Cadburys and McDonalds a good role model for healthy life style? Properly not,but as the other sponsor in the frame was BAT, the tobacco giant, lesser of two evils maybe.:-)
