Mahiki to open VIP superclub at the London 2012 Olympics

15th September 2011, 22:05

Celebrity hangout Mahiki are opening a new superclub for VIPs at the London 2012 Olympics.

The nightspot - a favourite of Princes William and Harry - will open an exclusive venue right beside the Olympic Park in east London for next year’s Games.

Plans are at an advanced stage for a 3,750 capacity venue on nearby Fish Island to be converted for glamorous guests.

A source said: “Mahiki know there will be lots of A-list celebrities and Hollywood stars in London for the Olympics.

“It will be one of the most exclusive guestlists when the Games are on, so there will no doubt be hundreds of stars attending and athletes hoping to celebrate in style with their medals.”

The venue will be called Mahiki East and bosses are planning for a secret route for VIPs to travel from the venue straight into the Olympic Park, just a few hundred yards away.

Developers Surrey Vale got the go-ahead but have yet to secure a local council drinks licence.

Mahiki in Mayfair, central London, was formerly run by Guy Pelly, a close friend of the royals.

It is a favourite haunt for pop and TV stars, and regularly hosts visiting international superstars such as Beyonce and Jay-Z, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera and Nicole Scherzinger.

The source added: “No expense will be spared in making the venue look incredible ahead of the Games. It will be a club worthy of carrying on the Mahiki name.”

Customers will take water taxis from docks in Limehouse, Tottenham Hale and Stratford to the venue, set to open seven days a week for two months during the Olympics and Paralympics.
