McDonalds fails to get staff into Games spirit

10th December 2011, 06:33

An Olympic-themed staff incentive scheme being run by McDonald’s, one of the Olympic Movement’s main global sponsors, has proved about as appealing to its employees as a cold filet-o-fish.

The prize for being named worker of the month is, wait for it, the chance to work at one of the McDonald’s concessions in the Olympic Park or the athletes’ village during the Games. An internal communications consultant has now been hired to think of new ways of drumming up enthusiasm for the Games.

Haha, divingbrit, now this Telegraph article has to be one of the most amusing articles I've read for sometime.

Let's be honest, the average McDonald’s employee is not exactly going to be the most focused on the London 2012 Olympic Games.

At this moment in time I cannot think of employees of any business who give a damn about the London 2012 Games. Most are more worried about being sacked due to the recession. No I tell a lie. Employees of locog might have a small (but vested) interest.

As for an internal communications consultant being hired by McDonald’s to think of new ways of drumming up enthusiasm for the 2012 Games. You couldn't make this stuff up!!!

Reminds me when I worked in the Logistics section of J.Sainsburys, one bright idea to boost turn round times at the shops by the large lorries, It was to give out a prize for the most improved average time.

Prize was a chance to spend a day out at the local Depot!

My comment?
'Second prize is two days!'

Needless to say, it was quietly forgotten about.

How do some people manage to climb into upper management when they come up with daft ideas such as this. I assume that the lorry turn round times actually increased following this 'generous' prize offered by the Logistics section of J. Sainsburys.

This is the type of decision making you expect from a government department or council, I'm very surprised that the likes of Sainsburys would entertain such an idea.
