London 2012 Olympics ticket resales under way

6th January 2012, 08:38

People have the chance to try to resell their unwanted London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic tickets from Friday.

Those who bought tickets directly from Games organiser Locog will be able to submit their tickets on the 2012 ticketing website until 3 February.

They will be made available online for other customers to purchase during the resale window.

People who have bought tickets through official overseas sales should contact the retailer if they want to resell.

Locog said the process will allow people who do not want or are unable to use their tickets to sell them and ensure that venues are full during the Games.
Year ahead

If sold, the seller will receive the full face value of their tickets. If the tickets remain unsold by 3 February, they will be returned to the ticket holder's account.

There will be a further chance to resell tickets from April 2012.

Locog has said it is convinced most people will want to hold onto their tickets, but realised people were asked to buy tickets more than a year ahead of the Games.

Police have warned that it is a criminal offence to resell London 2012 tickets on the open market without the permission of Locog.

Ticket allocation for the Olympics last year angered thousands of members of the public who were left empty-handed as the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics and cycling sold out.

Re: London 2012 Olympics ticket resales under way

7th January 2012, 17:42

London Olympics 2012 organisers have suspended a ticket resale system on the day it was launched following problems with the website.

The biggest problem was reported to be that the site, run by Ticketmaster, was slow to update sessions that had sold out.

For example, tickets for the men's handball semi-finals were still showing as available hours after they had immediately sold out when the site went live on Friday.

The process was organised to allow people to sell on tickets they had bought that they no longer want, in a bid to beat the problem of ticket touts.

According to the Telegraph, the London 2012 organising committee Locog and Ticketmaster suspended the ticket uploading process at around 1pm to help the system refresh.

But by early evening the problem had not been solved, leading to a temporary suspension of the resale process.

According to the BBC, Locog said in a statement: "We have told Ticketmaster to suspend the resale system whilst they investigate some issues customers have been experiencing.

"We want buying and selling Olympic and Paralympic tickets through Ticketmaster to be a good customer experience, and so we will re-open the site once Ticketmaster have resolved these issues."

But amongst the bad reports (like tickets being selected but disappearing after proceeding to the checkout page), there were some happy customers who snapped up tickets for top events like the men's 400m final.

When it's back up and running, the resale system will allow people to upload unwanted tickets for sale until 3 February.

The news of the suspension comes just days after Locog oversold 10,000 tickets for the synchronised swimming event.

Thumbs up

Swap your unwanted tickets for those you do want?

5th February 2012, 18:49

Hi all

If you've been in the position of having tickets that you'd rather not sell for face value back to the organisers, and probably miss out on getting the event tickets you can attend or would rather attend - then we have a solution for you.

Swap-Olympic-Tickets.com

Our (completely UNOFFICIAL and not linked to the official organisers in any way) site allows you to register the tickets you have, how many, ticket category etc. and then state which tickets you'd be willing to swap/exchange them for with other like-minded Olympic fans.

It's free to register and list your tickets, and when there's a match with a fellow ticket holder you'll then be able to decide to contact that person and discuss how and when you'll arrange the swap.

The site's been set up (by a fellow Olympic fan) to help people get the tickets they really want, without the hassle and risk of returning tickets for face value, the black market, touts and the illegal selling of tickets outside of the organiser's service.

Register your tickets now and let any fellow ticket holders know about it (by clicking the like button on the site or in blogs, emails, running naked down your local high street, that sort of thing). The more people who list their tickets, the more likely that they'll be the ideal swap for yours.

Good luck in seeing the games your way in 2012!

John

Hello John and welcome to our UNOFFICIAL London 2012 forum. I must say that I think you're rather brave with your choice of tickets to swap bearing in mind the huge amount of legals looking out for anything to do with 2012 tickets.

Rather you than me

Hi Richard

Thanks for thinking about the site and service. I like to think of it as a "dating site for tickets", we merely put people with tickets in touch with each other, the rest is up to them.

We don't do the swapping for the ticket holders, we match their requirements with other holders and put them in touch.

We also like the idea of people making friends with other ticket holders, in such a way they can see the events in a perfectly olympic-legal way - eg. the main ticket holder who bought the tickets still goes to the event, but takes along his/her new friends, and vice versa - there's no restriction (as far as has been announced) in doing that.

Of course, if people do decide to do an outright swap, then it's a risk they would take personally of being refused entry if there were id checks on the turnstiles.

"At the end of the day" - we're just trying to help people see the games how they would like to see them and not trying to step on anyone's toes in the process.

We'd also find it easy to implement a "full swap" service working with the LOC. We could easily add a facility to provide the ticket booking numbers and any details the LOC would need to do the ticket transfer in a completely official way, by transferring the details to the LOC and providing the software for them to securely validate the swap request. They could even charge an administration fee as part of the process - which I am sure fans would gladly pay if they were guaranteed the events they really wanted.

Would be great to hear other people's views on our service.

Cheers

John

Hi John, well you're certainly putting forward a very strong reason for matching people who are considering swapping 2012 tickets for Olympic events that better suit them, and considering how many people 'apparently' missed out on buying 2012 tickets for the Olympics and Paralympics last year, seems like the only logical route when the official 202 ticket site continues to crash.

Might be an idea to watch Dispatches on channel 4 next Monday at 8pm when all will be revealed.

In the meantime, I wish you the best of luck with your venture, and watch out for the London 2012 ticket scammers on your site because there are bound to be a few con artists looking out to make a quick buck.

How many resale will they have!? It is getting out of hand!! Not that it's going to matter if the Olympics are cancelled! (As shown below)

Pretty sure this a joke! Thought you lot would like it though.

But it got me thinking what would happen if the olympics were cancelled? Would people get their money back or what it be a greater drain on our troubled economy?
