Wanted: quantity surveyors
20th October 2005, 11:47
A LONG-TERM shortage of quantity surveyors coupled with future government house-building targets present graduate surveyors with more career opportunities than ever before, says the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
With as many as 4,000 extra quantity surveyors needed to meet government-proposed housing targets, RICS is advising graduates to look to the construction sector for a successful and rewarding career.
Surveyors are the best paid graduate professionals, earning an average income of £24,000 a year three years after leaving university.
Surveying offers huge opportunities to travel as well as international recognition and variety from working on such projects as Heathrow Terminal 5, the Beijing Olympics, the London Transport project Cross-rail and the London Olympics.
Chartered surveyors shape the world we live in and influence our quality of life. The shortfall in quantity surveyors provides a great opportunity for those looking for a successful career to make a difference while enjoying a satisfying work/life balance and continual professional development.
