NBC's Ebersol in London to Hear 2012 Olympic Plans
29th September 2005, 12:40
London 2012, the organising committee for the 2012 Olympic Games, was today set to explain its concept for the staging and marketing of the games to senior executives of NBC, the US television network that will cover the games.
Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Sport and Olympics, was among those attending the meeting at the organising committee’s headquarters.
NBC's successful bid of $2.201 billion for the rights for both the 2010 and 2012 games represented a 30-per-cent increase on the $3.6 billion it is paying for five games, beginning with Sydney in 2000, under its present contract.
The bid valued the US rights for the 2012 games at $1.18 billion and for the 2010 winter games at $820 million, with the enhanced revenues for the 2012 games meaning that the host city is set to receive a $1.6-billion handout from the International Olympic Committee.
The US rights fees are expected to make up about 60 per cent of the IOC's total television revenues for the event.
