Postcard campaign targets Olympic companies
21st September 2005, 17:15
Peterborough Urban Regeneration Company is launching a campaign to attract the companies that must relocate to make way for Olympic redevelopment in London.
Around 300 businesses must move to permit the construction of new sports facilities for the Olympics in 2012.
Some are small or locally-based businesses that will not wish to move far from their present location - but Peterborough URC is this week commencing a mailing campaign to persuade the others to consider a move to Peterborough.
Over the next few weeks each business will receive each week a different 'tongue in cheek' postcard lamenting the need to move and highlighting the benefits of Peterborough. The postcards variously feature Olympic sports - for example, a javelin delivering a 'pointed message' as it spears the boardroom table - or visual puns on the Olympic rings symbol.
Peterborough URC chief executive Patrick O'Leary said: "Although the campaign has a relatively light-hearted approach, relocation of an existing business is a serious issue for those involved. We hope the message that Peterborough wants these businesses and is willing to help them move comes through as a very serious proposition.
"The postcards will make the point that Peterborough has much lower commercial and residential property prices than London and offers a better lifestyle, yet is less than an hour away."
