Mortgagees can take the long view on Olympic gold
11th September 2005, 14:36
Do you fancy Britain's chances of a gold rush at the 2012 Olympics? Chase De Vere Mortgages is selling a seven-year fixed-rate mortgage pegged at a competitive 4.54 per cent, which offers a cash bonus related to how many gold medals the British team wins during the 2012 Olympics. The loan expires on 31 August, 2012, just after the close of the Games, when the cash bonus can be worked out. If there are 16 British golds, then borrowers receive a cash bonus equivalent to 0.45 per cent of the initial loan amount. If the total is 20, the bonus is 0.75 per cent - equal to £750 on a £100,000 loan. In the past 50 years, Britain's top medal tally has been 11 in Sydney in 2000, including the gold won by the Coxless Fours (right), but the host nation often puts in a better performance than usual.
