5th December 2005, 10:21
London, Dec 4 (PTI) Work on the London Olympics 2012 is going on ahead of schedule and the Olympics Delivery Committee hopes the gigantic project will be completed within its stipulated budget of five billion pounds, its Chairman Lord Swraj Paul, the NRI industrialist, said.
"One of the most important works is the Olympics Legacy so that people of Britain, and specially of London, get more long-lasting benefits," Lord Paul said.
"We have done a lot of work within the cost. At the moment, we are ahead of schedule and hope to maintain it (completion of the entire project) within the budget of five billion pounds," Lord Paul told PTI in an interview here last night.
The Committee has so far sanctioned projects worth 300 million pounds for acquisition of property and relocation of businesses.
"A compulsory purchase order has been issued but our effort is to negotiate with the people. As the economic regeneration agency for London, we are committed to working with local communities, business and other partner organisations to put in place the right initiatives so that we can fully harness these benefits from now until 2012 and beyond," he said.
The Olympic Delivery Committee is a subcommittee of the London Development Authority Board with full delegated authority to take decisions.
Asked to spell out the salient features of the Olympic city, Lord Paul said the main Olympic Park area would include the main stadium, velopark, acquatic centre, athletic tracks, hockey stadium and the Olympic Village.
