Businesses Uninformed About Bidding Process For London 2012
2nd November 2005, 18:53
A report by the London Chamber of Commerce (LCOC) sponsored by KPMG, says that directors of small and medium-sized companies want to help make the London Olympics a success but do not believe they have the information necessary to enable them to bid for contracts.
The report was based on detailed interviews with the directors of 37 businesses in London and the South East.
The main complaint is that companies are confused about the time scale of the procurement process and who is managing it. There is also a feeling that the largest companies will monopolize the major contracts.
Also, many of the companies say they lack experience of preparing bids for public contracts in general while others are deterred by the perceived costs and complexity of the bidding process. Three quarters of respondents said they would find it valuable to meet equivalent companies who had already supplied an Olympic contract.
The business community supported London’s 2012 bid and according to the report are still behind the Games.
